Description:

Managing Editor for Thriving Business Journal in Southern California

The Orange County Business Journal is seeking a managing editor to play key roles in our thriving weekly publication and our growing Web presence.

We're part of the third-largest group of local business publications in the country, and we’re offering compensation that’s competitive nationally. Our editorial department has grown steadily, and we plan to continue to bolster coverage of the business community of Orange County (the fifth-largest county in the nation) as it leads Southern California’s recovery in 2013 and beyond.

Our coverage area includes a vibrant technology sector, with chipmaker Broadcom among the many companies based here. We are home to leading medical device makers Edwards Lifesciences, Beckman Coulter, and a cluster of drug makers that includes Allergan. The finance sector here includes Pimco, which has its headquarters in Newport Beach. A roster of top consumer brands are based in Orange County—home to Vizio, Quiksilver and the North American operations of Hyundai and several other automakers, to name a few.

The managing editor will be in charge of the planning and production of our weekly Special Reports, which are presented as a paper within the paper, giving a star a clear chance to shine.

The managing editor also will assist in shaping coverage strategies and story ideas, along with editing for our print edition and daily Web and email updates.

The right candidate will have experience in design and production—the nuts-and-bolts of getting the issue out—along with an ability to work with and help lead our staff of outstanding reporters.

A sophisticated understanding of business—including a working knowledge of financial statements and the ability to tell readers what they mean to local business—is a must.

Experience in covering technology or other key coverage areas—medical devices, real estate, finance, media, consumer products—is a plus.

The Orange County Business Journal's sophisticated understanding and coverage of our local business community has been ongoing for more than 20 years. Our editorial excellence has put us in a position to grow while other media shrink.

The right candidate will have a chance to grow as managing editor, with possibilities beyond.

Send your resume, relevant clips and a cover letter to Editor Jerry Sullivan at sullivan@ocbj.com, with ME RESUME in the subject line.
