Description:
The Aiken Standard, a 16,000 circulation daily newspaper located in Aiken, S.C. is seeking a news editor to manage the day-to-day duties of employees in the newsroom. The newspaper, owned by Evening Post Publish Company, covers the close-knit community of Aiken and surrounding towns. This is a full-time position, with a pay rate that equates relevant experience in the business, as well as insurance and 401(k) benefits. Qualifications include: - At least one year of relevant management experience - The ability to bolster coverage by handling day-to-day assigning and working with reporters to produce quality stories and photos that are relevant to our reader base - An understanding of the importance of managing reporters to seek out hyper-local news on a daily basis, as well as planning and executing impactful, enterprise stories that will draw interest in our area. - A candidate who has knowledge of AP style and can work with reporters and our copy desk to edit stories and make them relevant and important to our reader base with attention to detail - One who puts customer service first and is able to work with other newspaper departments closely - A multi-tasker with the skills to report and write, is proficient in InDesign, Photoshop and other news design programs - A candidate able to help make our print product work in tandem with our website (www.aikenstandard.com), understanding and overseeing the production of breaking news for the website.
