Description: The Gannett-owned Maine Stations WCSH 6 (Portland) and WLBZ 2 (Bangor) are looking for a next-generation news leader.The candidate chosen will bring noticeable enthusiasm for the future of local news in a new era. The News Director will understand and boldly advance the NEWS CENTER brand, multi-platform news content, storytelling, and innovation. A vision of the online and digital future is especially important. The successful candidate must have solid journalistic judgment, and a news philosophy that emphasizes accuracy, quality and unique content. Our people are the most important asset and the News Director must be a true leader with a keen eye for talent, strong motivation, coaching and development skills, and the ability to maintain a positive culture where creativity thrives. Departmental planning, project planning and budget knowledge and skills are needed. A degree in Broadcast Journalism is preferred and a proven track record of news leadership experience is required. WCSH/WLBZ produces more than 40 hours of news and information/programming through a multiple-newsroom, statewide system. The position is based in Portland and reports to the President and General Manager. Responsibilities: · Strategically lead and manage WCSH’s Information Center. · Clearly and consistently communicate an aggressive, focused vision for our product. · Build and grow an energetic, skill-rich, focused and innovative team. · Develop relationships with third parties to plan and implement successful content sharing partnerships.
