Description:

The Village Voice has an immediate opening for the lead blogger and editor of its news blog, Runnin' Scared. We're looking for a New York-based, deadline-capable journalist who has a thorough understanding of the NYC landscape. You should have at least two years' daily blogging experience at a known journalistic enterprise—and you should have made some noise doing it. No marketing professionals, please. No print veterans without digital chops, please (much as we love print!).

We need an agile, indigenous Web animal who can report and riff off of the day's stories—and occasionally produce something that becomes one of those stories. We are not after bulk or news-wire style copy; we want insight, voice, humor, sophistication, and the ability to add value to a curated selection of posts. And while you would be the architect of your own work—four to six original posts daily, each containing a bright idea of your own as well as, dare we ask, a bit of original reporting—you would also be the mixmaster for input from our staff and other contributors to the blog. In short, you will lead this vertical. This is a chance for the right person to assume a highly audible position in the NY media conversation; if you don't have the proven background for that level of challenge and meet the above requirements, seriously, please do not apply.

This is a full-time position with competitive salary and excellent benefits. Interested and qualified applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, and four to six sample blog posts to: NY-news-blogger@villagevoice.com.

When applying, mention that you saw this opening listed at JournalismJobs.com.
