Description: The San Francisco Business Times seeks a Lead Designer for it's award-winning newspaper and website. The Lead Designer should be well versed in visual storytelling on both print and digital publishing platforms, with a solid background in design and/or photography. This position is responsible for driving new and creative forms of story telling on all platforms, and is expected to contribute to, and edify, editorial planning discussions at all levels. The ideal candidate will have managerial experience, and a diverse background working with editors, designers, photographers and graphic artists. The Lead Designer is expected to stay current and well-versed in technological developments impacting design and its execution. The Leader Designer oversees, coordinates and implements the design, look and feel for business journals, and will work with a newly developed design created by media designer Mario Garcia. Reporting to the Editor in Chief, the Designer ensures the highest possible design standards are met by the business journal on all platforms – day in and day out online, and week in week out in print. REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS · Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred · Minimum of 1 – 3 years of experience · HTML, Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design know-how · Work both within, and outside of, the content team · Strong communicator, able to articulate the design vision to editorial and business staffers alike · Versatile ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Duties and Responsibilities, work schedules and/or location may change based on evolving business needs · Execute companywide design format, standards and styleguide. · Work hand-in-hand with news team to creatively present stories and data on all platforms. · In consultation with Publisher and sales management, design special sections and reports for multiple platforms. · Generate graphics, images and layout to drive reader engagement. · Contribute story ideas regularly, as well as a constant stream of ideas for stories already in the pipeline. · Champion, and execute, new story-telling formats. · Regularly participate in and attend Business Journal sponsored events. · Take on any other assignment made by manager(s). · Work cooperatively and collaboratively with all colleagues and professionally with sources. WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS General office environment. Extensive computer use required. Some travel required. Ability to work flexible work schedules, including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed.
