Southwest Newspapers is looking for a multi-talented journalist to fill a full-time position that is split between general assignments reporting, niche-publication writing, and oversight of the company’s entertainment content.

Company benefits include health insurance, profit sharing and a 401(k) program.

This is a key position, demanding a high level of skill, organization and determination. The candidate should be passionate about writing, be able to connect with readers, and have superior time-management skills.

The candidate must be creative and have a strong visual sense. The reporter’s beats include school news and general-interest feature stories.

One-half of the position involves reporting for the Shakopee Valley News weekly newspaper. The other half involves work on Southwest’s niche publications and its Let’s Go! entertainment material. Among other duties, this involves newspaper page planning, and handing occasional entertainment story assignments to about 18 newsroom staffers.

A journalism or communications degree is required; multimedia experience is a plus, as is knowledge of content-management systems. Please do not apply unless you’re able to interview for the job in person.

Southwest Newspapers, based in the Minneapolis suburb of Shakopee, publishes seven weekly community newspapers, three weekly shoppers, annual Resident’s Guides and other specialty publications in the fast-growing southwest suburbs of the Twin Cities.
