Description:

Southern Maryland Newspapers, a publisher of twice-weekly papers in Charles, Calvert and St. Mary’s counties, is seeking a Web editor to manage its website, SoMDNews.com, as well as assist with production of Post-Newsweek Media’s other community websites, Gazette.Net and FairfaxTimes.com.

The position involves editing, headline writing, coding, pagination, some light photo and video editing, and working with reporters and editors. Speed, accuracy and solid news judgment are essential in updating the website.

Candidates should be meticulous editors with an eye for detail, and well-versed in AP style. Proficiency in HTML and CSS is a must, as is familiarity with InDesign, Photoshop, ftp clients and SEO. Knowledge of Flash is a plus. The ideal candidate will be able to work in both print and Web and manage multiple projects at once.

A college degree is required. At least two years' experience in a daily or weekly newspaper environment is preferred.

This position is based out of our Waldorf newsroom, but the editor may work on occasion out of Post-Newsweek Media’s other offices. Some night and weekend work is required.
