Editorial interns assist the editorial department with fact-checking and research for the print magazine, and will also assist with the daily production of The American Prospect's web site, which includes multimedia editing, and preparing pieces for publication on the web. Knowledge of HTML, photoshop, and video editing are a plus. Interns are also encouraged to contribute editorially and participate in web meetings in addition to pursuing their own projects under the guidance of staff members. The internship program features regular "brown-bag" lunches with guest speakers from local media and progressive organizations. Speakers have included Chris Hayes on magazine feature writing; Matthew Yglesias on blogging as a career; Ezra Klein on policy reporting; and Spencer Ackerman on reporting from a war zone. We encourage interns to fully integrate themselves into the operations of the magazine while taking full advantage of the events and hearings only available in Washington, D.C.
This is a full-time internship and comes with a $100 weekly stipend. The American Prospect will assist in arranging for academic or work-study credit whenever possible, though interns who receive full course credit are ineligible for the weekly stipend.
