Description:

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the global development network for the United Nations system that is on the ground in 177 countries, with its headquarters in New York, USA.

The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) leads and supports the organization in cultivating, building and nurturing strategic relationships and alliances that are essential for advancing and successfully achieving the mission of UNDP through partnership development, resource mobilization, and communications. These strategic relationships cover a wide range and number of key constituencies and development partners, encompassing developing countries, existing and prospective donor countries/emerging economic powers, sub-national partners, civil society, multilateral and regional institutions, the private sector, foundations, academia and think tanks, the wider UN system, inter-governmental bodies, as well as the media.

Under the supervision of the Director of Communications Cluster, BERA, in coordination with the Deputy Director and in collaboration with other Team Managers, the Team Manager of the News and Media Team is responsible for all aspects of news, story and media production and management.  He/she leads the New York-based News and Media Team with regional and thematic responsibilities as well as the Audio/Visual Unit and a writer/editor.  He/she is responsible for increasing UNDP’s capacity to communicate proactively with global media outlets and for helping strengthen UNDP’s positioning among key partners and target audiences. He/she is responsible for operating and enhancing the success of UNDP’s internal News Service.  He/she is expected to  have strong understanding of strategic communications approaches and tools for effective advocacy and campaigning.
