Description:
The Associated Press seeks a Newsperson (VJ) for its Chicago, Illinois location. The Video Journalist writes, shoots, edits and files video packages for all AP broadcast and Internet video platforms. The VJ works with the assignment desk and supervisors to coordinate all content for video and audio packages, ensuring a well told, clear, concise and balanced story. The VJ develops strong sources to break news for AP, is assigned to cover breaking news events and deploys accordingly. The VJ pitches distinctive enterprise stories and plans, writes, shoots and edits their story using advanced non-linear systems. The VJ uses the latest digital tools to capture and deliver live material. The VJ performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications:

The Associated Press is looking for an experienced all platform journalist with strong writing and video editing skills. We want VJs who take ownership of their stories and work through obstacles to get the job done. The ideal candidate has solid news judgment, reacts quickly to breaking news and has the ability to work in both newsroom and field environments. Previous experience as a video journalist is a must along with strong interpersonal skills. Candidate should have experience editing non-linear video, preferably FinalCut Pro. Must be able to travel to the scene of breaking news with little notice and remain on site to ensure adequate coverage of the story. Must be able to work all shifts, including overnights and weekends. Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required.  Authorization to work in the U.S. is mandatory.
