Internship Opportunity

Destination Magazine is accepting applications from college graduates for its editorial internship programme. Interns work on a full-time, unpaid basis for six months and receive highly practical experience in story conceptualization, critical reading and analysis, research, fact checking, editorial writing and collaborative work as part of the general workings of a leading regional publication.

Each intern works closely with an editor on one section of the magazine (features or regular sections), takes part in the creation of the publication’s content, and is encouraged to generate ideas and creatively contribute to the overall concept.

If you are interested in working for Destination Magazine as an Editorial Intern, you will emerge from the programme with several real-world tools toward securing of employment with us or another respected publication:

• A practical understanding of the workings of a busy mainstream magazine

• Collaborative experience in working with editorial team members

• Adaptability in research, conceptualization and writing style

• Portfolio of polished, actual editorial contribution?

• Professional references and resume content

Terms and Conditions

 

All interns must provide proof of sufficient funds to cover all living costs for the duration of their internship. However, Destination Magazine will provide suitable accommodation during the intern’s time with the publication.

Interns are responsible for the payment of flights to and from Kenya.

All costs associated with the role of the intern will be the responsibility of Destination Magazine.

If the intern works out the full period of their internship, Destination Magazine will reimburse the cost of his/her Kenyan entry visas.

All interns will receive a full briefing and job description prior to departure and orientation upon arrival.

 

Intern Qualifications

>Recently completed a degree in journalism, English literature or similar 

>Effective verbal and written communication skills, with a very keen eye for detail

>Proficient in Microsoft and/or MAC Office products and basic computer skills

>Exceptional research skills, including Internet

>Ability to meet regular and often tight deadlines

>Excellent time management skills, and requires minimal supervision

>Team player with good attitude

>Commitment to completing a task or assignment; able to problem solve as necessary

>Able to follow guidance and ask for clarity and/or assistance when needed

>Able to embrace constructive criticism with a positive and productive attitude

>Fun, friendly and easy-going but takes work and responsibilities very seriously

> Able to self manage and proactively add value to the editorial team
