Description:

Since 1954, The Texas Observer, headquartered in Austin, has specialized in fearless, award-winning investigative reporting and great writing about the strangest state in the Union. We are seeking a managing editor with a passion for long-form narrative journalism and a demonstrated ability to make editorial trains run on time. The ideal candidate will be widely read and insatiably curious, and work well on a small staff of hard-driving but amiable reporters and editors. The managing editor has primary responsibility for the magazine's Culture section. Duties include conceiving, assigning and editing culture stories, managing freelancers, and recruiting new writers. The managing editor also oversees production of the magazine, and assists with day-to-day management of the newsroom. Some news writing and editing is also required, including shorter online features and blog posts for Texasobserver.org.

To apply, please email your resume and cover letter, with the subject line "Managing Editor," along with relevant clips, to Editor Dave Mann at mann@texasobserver.org.
