Description:

GALO Magazine, an online weekly art and culture magazine, is looking for contributors and interns for its section Artists of the Week as well as for its upcoming short Q&As and some new series. (Instructions on how to apply can be found below.)

In addition, GALO is looking for photojournalists or multimedia journalists who have experience with photo essays as well as broadcast journalists who would be interested in doing podcast interviews and pieces as well as video interviews

There are 5 positions open for weekly podcasts and 5 for video interviews. Podcast applicants must be able to write as well. Podcasters and video interviewers will be interviewing artists, musicians, filmmakers, actors, actresses, etc.

These positions would be unpaid for now; however, writers and contributors would have a chance to have their work published online. Some interns might be able to receive school credit (this needs to be discussed with the university). I would also be providing contributors with their own byline/author biography, a place on the Masthead, and press passes/credentials to exclusive events. Currently, the position is a work from home one; therefore, there is no need to worry about morning commute! However, a working computer and reliable internet connection are a must.

ARTIST OF THE WEEK NEEDS WRITERS

  • We are looking for five writers who, on a weekly basis, would each deliver one Q&A piece, consisting of 10 questions, for our section "Artists of the Week." Artist of the Week revolves around the visual arts (sculpture, photography, painting, etc.). Complete details would be provided upon acceptance of application.

SHORT Q&As

  • We are looking for writers who will deliver weekly short Q&As consisting of no more than 7 to 10 questions with celebrities (actors/actresses, musicians, singers, dancers, etc.) businessmen/company owners, chefs, authors, fashion designers, etc. We need 3 to 5 writers for each section.

BOOK REVIEWERS, FILM REVIEWERS AND ART REVIEWERS

  • Book Reviewers: We are looking for five to seven book reviewers who will review upcoming releases from both major and independent publishers on a weekly basis. Book reviewers will also frequently interview the authors.
  • Film Reviewers: We are looking for five to seven film reviewers who will review both upcoming blockbuster films as well as foreign and indepent cinema.
  • Art Reviewers: We are looking for five to seven reviewers based in New York City who would review art in both galleries and museums. We are also looking for an additional five reviewers located in other major cities.

ART FEATURES WRITERS

  • We are looking for five art feature writers located in New York City and five feature writers located outside of New York.

Besides those sections and series, GALO is always looking for writers who can write 1-2 times a week, and deliver 800-1,500 word articles, though there is room for longer features. We are in need of feature writers for the following sections: Art, Film, Music, and Travel & Food.

I will provide more information on each section if you are accepted. More sections may be added with time, but for now those are the sections that are available with a strong focus on the arts.

Though I do prefer those with a minimum of 1-2 years of journalism experience, I will consider those who are just starting out.

I ask that you proceed only if you have a serious interest and feel this platform will be a good fit for your goals and endeavors.

If this piques your interest, please send the following to contribute@galomagazine.com :
