Criminal Justice Reporter

The Bulletin, a 34,000 daily circulation newspaper, is seeking an experienced criminal justice reporter with a demonstrated ability to deliver high-impact, relevant stories. This person will cover civil and criminal justice issues in Central Oregon, which includes Deschutes, Jefferson and Crook counties.

The ideal candidate will be a watchdog reporter who continually seeks out the issues that are critical to our readership. This person will write news that goes beyond the police blotter and court docket. This person should be able to own the beat, doggedly pursue stories and elevate simple civil lawsuits into evocative and meaningful narratives. The ideal candidate will be able to analyze civil and criminal justice issues in Central Oregon. 

Extensive research ability and experience working with public document databases and filing FOIAs is required. Knowledge of court proceedings and legal systems is preferred.

This person should be able to conceptualize the multimedia components that might complement their stories, including video, audio and slideshow elements. Ideally this person will have experience using social media sites, including Facebook and  Twitter. Experience with computer-assisted reporting preferred.
