Chicago-based Claretian Publications seeks and Assistant Editor for its Catholic general-interest publication U.S. Catholic magazine.  This position is responsible for ensuring the high quality of the monthly magazine and online content  at uscatholic.org by writing and editing according to sound editorial practices. The Assistant Editor is also responsible for generating story ideas, commissioning articles, and maintaining productive author and columnist relationships.  This position is also responsible for the development, formatting, and posting of online content.  The Assistant Editor works collaboratively as a member of the editorial team and also has full responsibility for certain departments in the magazine.                     

 Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, theology, or a related field.
• 1-3 years of writing, copy editing and layout experience. 
• Experience with web editing and online publishing.  Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Drupal 6 or 7, and HTML/PHP.
• A strong knowledge of Catholic teaching and understanding of current issues in the church.
• Excellent communications skills, problem solving skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative, creative environment.
