The Daily Republic, of Mitchell, S.D., seeks a full-time reporter to join our 13-person newsroom.

We publish a six-day, 11,500-circulation print product and a website viewed by about 50,000 people per month. Each year since 2010, we've won the General Excellence award from the South Dakota Newspaper Association's Better Newspapers Contest, which means we've been judged the best newspaper in our circulation category four consecutive times.

The successful applicant for this job will likely be assigned to our region beat, covering a 17-county area. Self-motivation is a key in this position, as the region reporter is responsible for finding and developing stories from a broad and diverse area (including small towns, farm country, ranch country and American Indian reservations). This beat includes a significant amount of travel into the region, typically in a company vehicle, so a good driving record is a necessity.

The Daily Republic is a Forum Communications Co. newspaper with a solid compensation and benefits package. Mitchell is a growing community of 15,000 people along Interstate 90, in the heart of pheasant country and within an hour's drive of the state's largest city, Sioux Falls, and the Missouri River.

To apply, submit a cover letter, resume and work samples to Editor Seth Tupper at (please include "Reporter application" in the subject line). Only the applicants chosen for an interview will be contacted.
