This position is responsible for designing creative graphics and laying out pages for the newspaper. This position also writes copy for seasonal publications, uploads stories to the website and ensures all files are properly backed up.

The Globe newspaper is based on a US government contract awarded for Camp Lejeune. The Globe is a weekly military newspaper with a distribution of 30,000.

The layout editor position reports directly to the Managing Editor.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in graphic design or related work experience of 1-3 years
- MUST be proficient in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
- A strong demonstrated commitment to high quality customer service
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work well under deadlines.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working in a monthly, weekly or daily newsprint publication environment.
- Proven graphic design skills
- Ability to write interesting articles
- Knowledge of journalism principles, techniques and ethical standards.

REQUIREMENTS:
At least 1 year work experience in print or online publications will be considered (college newspaper experience helpful).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with excellent people skills.
Proficiency in spelling, grammar and punctuation, ability to write, edit copy and generate story ideas. Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, decision making, and priority-setting skills.
Comfortable with a collaborative and team approach to managing work.
Ability to follow directions.

Employment is contingent on passing a drug screening and a background check. Compensation will be in low to mid twenties based on an hourly rate with great benefits and paid vacation time.
