Our Capital City newspaper needs a Sports Editor. Are you a sports writer who thinks like a reader? Do you thrive under deadline pressure and are you willing to take charge when necessary? Do you care about the craft of writing as well as the way a story is told visually? The Capital Journal is in need of a Sports Editor. The position’s primary responsibility is to cover sports activities in the counties we serve. The job includes writing stories, related photography work, assisting our copy editors with input on paginating sports pages and loading sports stories and pictures on our website. We offer our Sports Editor one of the best platforms for storytelling of any small daily in the northern Great Plains. Our last Sports Editor won the South Dakota Sportswriter of the Year award. The Sports Editor works in a newsroom that has won 20 first-place awards in state and regional journalism contests over the past two years. Requirements are a four-year college degree, preferably in journalism, or equivalent knowledge or training. Previous experience is a plus. The Capital Journal is more than just a newspaper. We are a media company and as such, we use social media, the Web, Flickr, Vimeo, Cover-it-Live, text updates and a variety of methods in addition to the print product to keep South Dakota readers informed.
