Page designer/copy editor/photographer - One of Oregon's best midsized dailies, The News-Review in Roseburg, has an opening on its copy desk. We are looking for a talented journalist who thrives at various elements of newspaper design, including the front page, sports pages, arts & entertainment section, weekend section fronts, special sections and inside wire pages. Ideal candidates will have a good eye for clean design, excellent copy editing skills, extensive knowledge of AP style, the ability to write accurate and eye-catching headlines, and to work calmly under deadline pressure. Our newspaper utilizes the Adobe suite of software programs and the content management system of Newscycle (formerly DTI). Anyone experienced with those programs will have an edge. Working hours vary as we publish four afternoons a week and on Saturday and Sunday mornings, with a circulation of about 16,000. The successful candidate will be in the rotation for page one and sports layout and be expected to make intelligent selections from the AP wire that resonate with our audience. Candidates will work closely with the city editor and features editor on the best display for local copy. We are family-owned, offer good benefits and a 401K.
