We are looking for an experienced sales and marketing professional, with a passion for the practice of modern media, communication and an agency philosophy. We want someone interested in helping us improve our digital reach, mentor/advise students on industry best practices and continue to build revenue off of existing and unexplored alternative sources.

Overview

The Vice President of Sales & Marketing will help continue to make the Emerald the most innovative college media company in America. This person will work closely with students in the Emerald’s business divisions and its professional staff to develop print and digital products, along with  agency products and services to serve the University of Oregon and Eugene/Springfield community.

 

This is a salaried, full-time position that pays $40,000 to $50,000 base with incentivised commissions paid monthly, quarterly performance bonuses and health and dental benefits. This person reports to the President.

 

Core Functions:

  • Collaborates with the President and VP of Operations in establishing and recommending the most realistic sales goals for the company.
  • Establishes and manages effective programs to compensate, coach, appraise and train sales/relationship personnel.
  • Advise the Emerald’s business division leaders (e.g. Venture Dept., PhotoBooth, Pine PR and The DesignShop) in an effort to maintain the Emerald’s core educational mission.
  • Facilitate effective communication between all departments in regards to collaborative sales and marketing efforts.

 

Specific duties

  • Works with the Publisher and EMG business leaders (e.g. Venture Dept., PhotoBooth, Pine PR and The DesignShop) to grow Emerald Media Group’s relevance, reach and revenue at the University of Oregon and in the Eugene community.
  • Will meet and/or exceed an annual revenue budget of $1,008,000.
  • Offers sales/relationship support on major accounts and negotiates sales price and discounts in consultation with the President.
  • Manages personnel and develops sales/relationship and support staff.
  • Reviews progress of sales/relationship roles throughout the company.
  • Accurately forecasts annual, quarterly and monthly revenue goals.
  • Develops specific plans to ensure revenue growth in all company’s products.
  • Provides monthly results assessments of sales/relationship staff’s productivity.
  • Coordinates proper company resources to ensure efficient and stable revenue results.
  • Formulates all sales policies, practices and procedures published in an Emerald Media Group digital rate card and media kit.
  • Assists sales/relationship personnel in establishing personal contact and rapport with gatekeepers and decision-makers.
  • Ensures all agency work is consistent with the Emerald’s standards for professionalism, quality, branding and strategy.
  • Collaborates with business and professional staff to develop strategies to improve market share in all EMG services and product lines offered.
  • Educates sales/relationship team by establishing programs, seminars and workshops in the areas of new account sales and growth, sales of emerging products and multi-product sales, profitability, improved presentation strategies, competitive strategies, proper use and level of sales support, management of expenses and business/financial issues on all EMG client contracts.
  • Collaborates with President and VP of Operations to establish and control budgets for sales promotion and trade show expenses.
  • Reviews expenses and manages departmental budgets.
  • Holds regular meeting with sales/relationship staff.
  • Will attend the weekly Business Leaders meeting.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Reporting:

  • Reports directly to the President, Publisher and CEO of Emerald Media Group.

 

Qualifications:

  • Ability and desire to work alongside, advise and mentor college students.
  • A university degree in advertising, marketing or business is preferred; or a minimum of five years of related experience or training in sales; or an equivalent combination of both.
  • A familiarity with brand strategy, media planning and strategic communication
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills to interpret sales performance, market trend information and emerging markets.
  • Proven ability to motivate and lead a sales/relationship team.
  • Experience in developing marketing and sales strategies. Excellent oral and written communication skills, plus a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • A valid driver’s license.
