Melwood Global (, a strategic communications firm with offices in Boston and the Washington, D.C. area, seeks a media specialist to work from its downtown Boston office on a high-profile public campaign. This position is full-time but will extend only through November and the end of the campaign – though we are hopeful the person can stay on with our firm.

We are a firm owned by former longtime daily journalists and spokespeople who put a premium on media experience, strategic thinking, client service and innovative thinking.

Our firm works on behalf of numerous clients in New England, throughout the United States and abroad in areas including health care, energy, k-12 and higher education, government, politics, labor, criminal justice, international aid and foreign policy, transportation and disability issues.

  • You are a self-starter who can thrive  working independently or in a team setting
  • You crave escalating responsibilities and insist on exceeding expectations
  • You are confident in your ability to think your way through a challenge on a tight deadline
  • You never give up and will regroup/rethink/re-strategize until a client’s opportunity is seized or their challenge is solved
  • You have a specific interest and experience in public policy, politics and government

Candidates must have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field (or, if not, tell us why your degree brings unique value to this job)
  • At least two years of experience (as a journalist or in communications) in Massachusetts with contacts in Massachusetts media
  • Superb research, writing and communicating abilities
  • Confident and outgoing personality
  • Unending curiosity about and voracious appetite for news – local, national and international
  • Ability to grasp multiple issues across multiple industries within tight deadlines
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Computer and online literate with flawless skills with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Deep experience with social media platforms and communications tools
  • Access to your own vehicle (though our office is public transportation friendly)

Professional experience in public relations is not mandatory, though it is beneficial.

This a full-time contract position which offers a highly competitive pay through the campaign period.
