Experienced Reporter Wanted
The Emporia Gazette of Emporia, Kansas, has an immediate opening for an
experienced reporter who can build sources and dive into local issues. Duties include
general assignment, feature writing, coverage of local government boards and copy
editing.
The person must have sharp reporting instincts, outstanding news judgment, an
ability to report and write quickly in a fast-moving atmosphere. A curiosity about the
community and its people is vital.
The candidate must be an experienced interviewer who doesn't shirk from the hard
questions. This person must have the ability to work productively in a team setting.
The person must be aggressive and adept at setting priorities and reordering them as
needed, particularly under deadline pressure or as circumstances change. The person
should have strong editing and writing skills, and experience with Multimedia journalism
is must. We use video, audio, Facebook and Twitter to tell our stories.
We are a Monday through Saturday afternoon paper, 7,000 circulation, covering six
counties. Salary based on experience. We offer health benefits, 401(k) and two weeks
vacation. Emporia is on the edge of the beautiful Kansas Flint Hills, one hour away
from major Kansas cities like Kansas City, Wichita and Topeka.
