Seeking staff writer to cover lifestyles, features, entertainment, human-interest stories and related topics in Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes.

Qualified job applicants should have an engaging personality and be involved intricately with the area to develop sources and locate festivals, art exhibits, concerts and other community events taking place in the two-parish area.

You must possess the ability to engage readers and sources, and be able to work an unconventional schedule to cover night and weekend events taking place in the community. A sense of humor is a must, as is the ability to learn how to spell names like Boudreaux and Thibodaux. For this beat, we're looking for someone able to craft and seek out stories about people in the area and places in the communities in which we live.

Tasks will also include shooting and editing videos and posting stories, photos and other content to our websites.

The Courier newspaper, a 13,000 circulation paper published seven days per week, and Daily Comet, a 9,000 circulation paper published six days a week, are consistently recognized for their quality journalism. It has earned Newspaper of the Year honors from the Louisiana Press Association for most of the past decade. The Lifestyles Department has received first-place honors from the Louisiana Press Association the past four years for its Lifestyles coverage and we are looking for someone to uphold this honor going into the future.

Candidates must have a four-year college degree. Previous experience at a daily newspaper preferred. The Courier and Daily Comet, a part of the Halfiax Media Group, offer excellent benefits and is situated in a vibrant, unique community with Cajun roots about an hour southwest of New Orleans.
