We are Seeking writers, photographers, videographers and multi-media Interns for the Summer Season of 2018 on Martha’s Vineyard.
Interning at This Week on Martha's Vineyard is a great way to get some experience, school credit and still have a great summer. Martha's Vineyard is the premier summer destination on the east coast with many college students working and playing here for the summer break
Our internships provide you with approx. 15 hours a week of experience and alow you plenty of time to enjoy the island. All internships are part-time and unpaid however you will have plenty of time to gain paid employment at any of the many restaurants and shops on the island. This Week on Martha’s Vineyard is a weekly entertainment newspaper, website and interactive map currently running strong for nearly 20 years and gets published 14 times per season. We cover a variety of topics important to tourists visiting the island such as: Activity spotlights, things to do at night, music and restaurant reviews, arts and antiques, shopping, fishing report, and human interest pieces that relate to subjects on the island. We have used interns over the years to offer a fresh perspective to our publication. All of our interns improved their writing skills and developed their own style of writing by the end of their internship program. This year we will be doing a lot of exciting new things including live video broadcasting to our sister publication Dirty Water News in Boston. We are seeking people looking for experience writing articles, taking photographs for publication, shooting video for live streaming and possibly on our TV show Dirty Water TV. We would also like to have someone versed in social media marketing and will train the right person. This is NOT an internship where you will be stuffing envelopes and performing other menial tasks. Your articles WILL be published every week for fourteen issues as well as read by over ten thousand people each week. In addition, at least once during your internship, you will perform as the Assistant Editor position where you will work closely with the Publisher, Graphic Designer, Editor and other interns to help produce an issue. This has proven very useful as you will have hard copies of the issues to take with you to show future employers/schools. Also, many of our interns have earned school credits for this internship and we are happy to meet the requirements your school may have to earn these credits. This is an unpaid internship, however in the past virtually all of our interns have obtained other full-time work in restaurants or other establishments on the island. (This Week can help you out with this as most of the islands restaurants are also clients). We will work with you as much as possible to accommodate your schedule. Our interns report having the best summer of their lives while gaining some very valuable experience and that having their work published was a great help to them in their future job procurement. I hope this gives you an understanding of our internship program. We are looking for dynamic individuals who want to get real life experience doing what love and who want to have the best summer of their lives.
