Description

The Topeka Capital-Journal is seeking a dynamic voice to engage our audience in spirited debate about important community and state issues while writing thought-provoking editorials and leading conversation in podcasts. Our Opinion Page/Community Conversation Editor will find the Capitol City is uniquely situated with great access to members of Kansas state government and statewide exposure.

Responsibilities:
• Write daily editorials that are timely and probing, as well as weekly columns of local and state interest
• Facilitate our Editorial Advisory Board, which generates ideas and gives input on issues for editorial stances
• Solicit guest columns through community engagement
• Oversee letters to the editor
• Engage with audience through regular podcasts, Facebook Live discussions, social media, email and more
• Interview public officials, candidates for public office, policy advocates and community members
• Manages all online content related to the Opinion section
• Developing new and innovative ways of delivering digital content, including opinion videos
• Build and maintain relationships with local, state and federal elected and appointed officials

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field
• Minimum 5 years with a daily newspaper or similar publication
• Superior writing and reporting skills
