The Wisconsin State Journal, south-central Wisconsin's leading news source, is seeking a smart and aggressive reporter to cover the University of Wisconsin System and its world-class UW-Madison research campus, as well as higher education policy and student trends.
This is a high-impact, high-profile beat, requiring an ability to write with depth and nuance on deadline while working on Sunday-quality enterprise and watchdog stories.
Experience in accountability reporting, aggressive use of public records law and a high comfort level working with data is required. This position also demands an ability to engage audiences via social media, report in real time for our online platforms and an aptitude or desire to shoot video. At least five years of daily newspaper reporting experience is preferred. Past educational coverage is desired, but being a self-starter and having a demonstrated work ethic matter more.
To be considered for the position, applicants must apply online by March 21, 2018. Please include a cover letter and five samples of your work or links to five recent stories.
