The successful candidate must have experience in the best ways to present news on all platforms – a digital leader who still loves to make the print product sing -- and must be an effective leader with a history of attracting and retaining the best talent, challenging veteran staff toward being their best and mentoring journalists just launching their career.
The ideal candidate will have a track record of using analytics to drive guide coverage, launch new initiatives and grow audience. The position requires a degree in journalism, 7+ years of experience in newsroom management, exceptional verbal and written skills, knowledge of newsroom budgeting, and passion for our profession.
Leadership in coverage and presentation of political issues is critical, too, as we are first in the nation during the presidential election.
S/he will also oversee the success of a small daily, the Muscatine Journal, and be comfortable working in a collaborative environment with a sister paper across the river.
