The successful candidate must be comfortable handling a variety of assignments in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, while being organized and able to simultaneously keep long-term stories moving forward.
We are a community newspaper in a proud city of 90,000 people. New Bedford is a hotbed for news from its commercial fishing industry to the issues that drive news coverage at most midsized cities — crime, drug addiction, education and local politics.
We are looking for a candidate who handles breaking news — crashes, fires, hurricanes, snowstorms; who stays awake and alert during government meetings; who produces clean copy; and who thrives working on a team.
Successful candidates should be social media savvy (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) and comfortable taking photos and video. A candidate who’s interested in participating in podcasts is a plus.
At least two years of newspaper or equivalent experience and a four year college degree are required. Hours are flexible as needed to cover news events, and include some evenings and a weekly weekend shift.
To apply, email your resume and four writing samples to Jennifer Driscoll, News Editor, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
