The Chicago Tribune is looking for a versatile, energetic freelance copy editor/designer to join its Editing & Presentation Department.
We're a nimble, decisive team working in a fast-paced newsroom in downtown Chicago. Copy editing encompasses a range of material: You might start the day editing suburban news, then move to a TV review, handle a corporate earnings report, then wrap up with a story out of China. Design assignments include laying out pages for all sections of the newspaper, collaborating with content editors, photo editors and graphic artists.
Candidates must have experience with print page design and editing, including headline writing. The ideal candidate has at least two years of newspaper experience. A background of both print and digital editing roles is a plus.
Requirements include top-notch editing skills, speed and a willingness to pitch in wherever needed. Designers will be able to quickly conceive and execute strong visual presentations on deadline with graphic/pagination applications, providing thoughtful organization, aesthetic impact and utility for our readers.
