The Staff Writer writes and develops written and digital content for the Lehigh University website, numerous print publications and a variety of digital initiatives targeted at key constituencies: prospective students, faculty and staff, alumni, donors and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will also provide content support for marketing, admissions and development-focused campaigns.


  1. Serve as a writer for the Lehigh Bulletin, Lehigh Annual Report, Lehigh Research Review and other publications, contributing news and features as assigned
    • Write, edit and generate stories for Lehigh print publications
    • Write, edit and post stories to Lehigh University homepage
    • Collaborate with communications staff across the University to find and develop stories in support of the Lehigh brand
  2. Provide editorial support for marketing, advertising, admissions and development campaigns
    • Identify, develop and write content in support of the University's admissions goals
    • Work with marketing and design teams to develop marketing and website copy in support of Lehigh's brand management efforts
    • Work with media relations and social media teams to publicize Lehigh research
  3. Leverage photos, video and other digital content to help tell the Lehigh brand story
    • While developing story ideas and other content, use photo, video and design to accent written content
    • Seek and capture visuals that tell a compelling Lehigh story and showcase the uniqueness of the Lehigh experience
    • Work with marketing and social media teams in an ongoing effort to think digitally in our content creation efforts


  • Will work a variable shift, occasional weekends and evenings required
  • Required to be on call


  1. Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications or related degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  2. One to three years related work experience working a journalism or communications setting
  3. Experience developing and writing news stories
  4. Experience writing marketing and digital copy
  5. Experience in digital content development, including photography and video
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  7. Excellent writing ability and organizational skills
  8. Solid analytical, decision making and problem solving skills
  9. Solid computer skills with experience using word processing and spreadsheet software
  10. Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, county and national criminal background checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance. Based upon the requirements of the position Lehigh may also request credit history reports, motor vehicle checks and professional license/certification verification
