Description

The Daily Times, in Farmington, N.M., is a seven-day paper with a strong digital presence. Posting on social media – Twitter, Facebook, etc. – will be a daily requirement.

We are looking for a full-time sports reporter who can live tweet, write quickly for online with updates as events develop, and then make a turn for the next-day print product.

The sports reporter is part of a two-person department who reports directly to the sports editor.

This person will help with the paper's coverage of the eight local high schools and write features about local athletes and their endeavors. Enterprise reporting is encouraged. Coverage in the summer centers on high school and college summer league baseball and the annual Connie Mack World Series, a 17-team amateur tournament featuring talented baseball players from North America and Puerto Rico.

Main responsibilities outside of reporting include working with photographers and writing for special sections.

The qualified candidate must be able to report and write on tight deadlines. Knowledge of outdoors activities, such as fishing and mountain biking is also a plus.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism or related field.
  • Strong reporting and writing skills.
  • Familiarity with website management and social media.
  • Ability to shoot compelling photographs.
  • At least two years of reporting at a weekly or daily newspaper.
  • Email cover letter, resume, clips and other pertinent information to kschneider@daily-times.com
