The Daily Times, in Farmington, N.M., is a seven-day paper with a strong digital presence. Posting on social media – Twitter, Facebook, etc. – will be a daily requirement.
We are looking for a full-time sports reporter who can live tweet, write quickly for online with updates as events develop, and then make a turn for the next-day print product.
The sports reporter is part of a two-person department who reports directly to the sports editor.
This person will help with the paper's coverage of the eight local high schools and write features about local athletes and their endeavors. Enterprise reporting is encouraged. Coverage in the summer centers on high school and college summer league baseball and the annual Connie Mack World Series, a 17-team amateur tournament featuring talented baseball players from North America and Puerto Rico.
Main responsibilities outside of reporting include working with photographers and writing for special sections.
The qualified candidate must be able to report and write on tight deadlines. Knowledge of outdoors activities, such as fishing and mountain biking is also a plus.
The Daily Times is a daily newspaper in Farmington, the largest city in the Four Corners. The staff covers the New Mexico part of the Four Corners and San Juan County, which includes Farmington, Aztec, Bloomfield and part of the Northern Agency of the Navajo Nation. The New Mexico Press Association/Associated Press Managing Editors awarded The Daily Times, competing against the state’s largest newspapers, first place for best sports coverage in 2014 and 2015, and second place in 2016.
