The Palladium-Times, the only daily newspaper in Oswego County, is looking for a skilled reporter to cover a local beat, write feature stories and handle general assignments.

We’re a six-day-a-week, 5,300-circulation newspaper specializing in local news that our readers can’t find elsewhere. Candidates need to be comfortable writing a variety of stories each day. It’s not unusual for our reporters to cover city or county court in the morning, interview sources for a feature story in the afternoon, and top the day off with a city or county meeting that night.

While the available position has an established beat, the area offers countless opportunities for reporters to chase articles outside their set responsibilities. Two local nuclear plants are frequently in the news, and the Port of Oswego Authority and two local colleges are fountains for story ideas. We’re looking for someone who is eager to cover established news topics, but also someone who wants to find fresh story ideas.

While the editor does assign stories on occasion, reporters are largely responsible for finding their own stories to report and for keeping up with all news on their respective beats. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, someone who is hungry to learn all they can about local government and schools and the people who make up Oswego County, and report the information quickly and accurately to our readers.

Reporters are usually asked to write two-to-four stories per day, and find photos to go with at least one of their daily stories.

Experience preferred, but not required. Experience with photography a plus.

Interested candidates can forward resumes and three-to-five clips to
