Description:

The Hagadone Montana newspaper company is accepting applications for reporters to work at one of our newspapers in Northwest Montana. We have two immediate openings.

  • The Daily Inter Lake in Kalispell, Montana, is seeking an enterprising reporter to handle business, city and feature assignments. Immediate opening for a general assignment reporter at the 13,000 circulation Inter Lake because our business and Kalispell city reporter decided he'd rather be in Norway! We will look at applications from reporters covering any beat, as long as you are enterprising and a team player. (www.dailyinterlake.com)

  • The Lake County Leader in Polson, Montana, is hiring a general assignment reporter who will joine a news staff of three to cover both sports and news. Polson is a casual and comfortable resort community at the south end of Flathead Lake, and offers lots of opportunities for outdoor experience. (www.leaderadvertiser.com)

If you want to join us in either of these positions, e-mail your cover letter, resume and work samples to Managing Editor Frank Miele at  edit@dailyinterlake.com. Sorry, but we can only contact the top few applicants to discuss the jobs in detail. The best applicants will be hired after a phone interview. We are an equal opportunity employer. Finalists will need to pass a background test, have a clean driving record and pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug screen.

Hagadone is a privately held company with a daily newspaper and six weeklies in Montana. With so many properties, we are often hiring. We would love to to hear from reporters who are either familiar with rural Montana or have a proven interest in the Western lifestyle. The ideal candidate will be able to generate stories as well as work on assignment; and write to length easily, whether turning in a pithy brief, a short feature, or a meaty explanatory piece. If you have additional skills, such as photography or page design, that can only help. Weekly editors, of course, need to be able to do everything, so if you want to step into one of those jobs eventually, be prepared!
