The Missoulian, western Montana’s largest newspaper, seeks a motivated, nimble reporter to cover K-12 education, with primary responsibility for the Missoula County Public Schools system (which still includes a one-room school) as well as area private schools and those on the nearby Flathead Indian Reservation. This job is not about covering meetings. We want reporters who can produce enterprise stories that help parents understand what and how their children are learning – or why they’re not -- and that take readers inside the classroom, the lunchroom and the computer lab.

The reporter would coordinate with education writers at other Lee Newspapers in Montana on issues of statewide interest, especially in terms of how state and federal government policies play out in the classrooms. The ideal candidate will relish diving into data – and then putting a human face to the numbers. Ability to explain a mill a must.

Missoula is a university town of about 70,000 people, three hours from both Glacier and Yellowstone national parks, known for its increasingly lively music scene and craft brewing tradition. Yes, a river runs through it. Our reporters work hard and play even harder.

We offer an excellent benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, paid holidays and a generous paid time off policy. We are an equal opportunity employer. You can see our Web site at and learn more about our company at
