Mid-Atlantic Media, publisher of the award-winning Baltimore STYLE magazine and Baltimore’s Child, is seeking a staff writer to contribute web stories, news items and the occasional feature for three magazines, Baltimore STYLE, Baltimore’s Child and Washington Family. Our staff writers also contribute to our social media presence.

This job requires a personable writer with strong reporting skills, as well as a conversant knowledge of the Baltimore metropolitan area and a willingness to be out and about in the community. Some reporting will be conducted in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

We are an expanding media company that has been creating award-winning publications since 1919. We publish Baltimore's Child, Baltimore Jewish Times, Baltimore STYLE magazine, Consumer's Eye Magazine, Home Services Magazine, Washington Family and Washington Jewish Week, while our Mid-Atlantic Custom Media division produces and manages titles in a range of industries. In everything we do and in everything we publish, we strive for excellence.

The successful candidate will be both a self-starter and team player possessing the ability to write about a variety of lifestyle topics, including children, family, fashion, food, health arts/entertainment, technology, women’s issues, home/garden and local, regional and national trends. While this staff writer will be mostly contributing to our lifestyle magazines, our writers have the opportunity to work on all of our publications and custom media projects.

Who are we looking for?

  • A self-starter who is aware of current trends and issues
  • A writer who is always thinking of the next story and enjoys the writing/reporting process
  • Experience with WordPress and social media
  • Ability to brainstorm with little lead-time
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt well to change
  • SEO and video knowledge a plus
  • Fact-checking experience
  • Journalism degree or another degree with newspaper/magazine experience

The ideal candidate will have a passion to be part of our team. Efficiency, dedication and initiative are critical skills.

This is a full-time position in our Owings Mills office. Some nights and weekends will be required. Sorry, no telecommuting.
