The Columbia Daily Tribune is hiring for a general assignment reporter.

Our ideal candidate possesses a broad range of interests, from municipal government to education and human interest. We need a reporter who can provide spot coverage of meetings, and then develop those subjects into enterprise reporting to go beyond the “who, what, where and when.” Our readers want to understand the “why” and “how.”

Candidates must be able to develop strong relationships with sources and readers, following the people, trends and issues in each community for print and web publication. We also need technology-savvy journalists who know when to shoot spot video, turn to Facebook Live to engage readers, and leverage social media to maximize readership. 

Candidates must be creative and organized with an attention to detail. These positions require some night and weekend work.

QUALIFICATIONS

A degree in journalism, English, a related field or equivalent work experience is required. A year or two of previous reporting experience is a big plus. Preference will be given to qualified applicants in Missouri and the Mid-West.
