The Roanoke Times seeks a motivated journalist to cover a multi-faceted beat in Southwest Virginia. Expectations include the completion of daily and mid-range stories as well as longer-term projects, timely completion of news stories for online and social media postings, source development and a willingness to be flexible based on the needs of The Roanoke Times. We’re not looking for people who always wanted to give journalism a try. We’re looking for serious journalists, either with experience in the field or who studied the profession in college, worked for school newspapers, interned at strong dailies and now are preparing to launch their careers. We want people dedicated to watchdog reporting, who believe in holding public officials accountable, who are driven to get the story and know how to do it. We want people who know how to dig and know how to write. If you have newspaper clips that demonstrate these qualities, we want to hear from you. Otherwise, don’t waste your time or ours. As part of BH Media Group, The Roanoke Times is the leading newspaper in Southwest Virginia. Please send a cover letter, resume and three of your best writing samples to Managing Editor Lee Wolverton at Please ensure the subject line reads: “Reporter.” (Hint: Following this initial direction is the first step to getting considered.)
