The Morning Call in Allentown, Pa., in the heart of the Lehigh Valley, an hour north of Philadelphia and 90 minutes from New York City,  is looking for a digitally focused leader for our editorial and opinion content, making it a hub of conversation and ideas in this diverse and rapidly changing community. The Director of Opinion/Community Engagement will engage the community through social media and public forums and work to solicit commentary from a wide range of voices outside the newsroom. This person will also establish best practices for engaging and interacting with our readers, and help to train the newsroom to implement them. The Director will initiate and enhance conversation with the community through social media, public forums and commentary written by staff, community members or other content partners. The winning candidate will work with the staff to take full advantage of opinion content (including letters to the editor) to drive digital subscriptions and keep audiences engaged and perform community outreach to ensure a constant flow of compelling and relevant guest columnists. A bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field and at least 10 years' experience in journalism is required. Newsroom management experience a plus.
