The Williston Herald, a 5-day-a-week morning paper at the heart of the North Dakota Oil Patch, has an opening for a reporter to cover city government.

Williston has grown tremendously over the last 10 years. It was the epicenter of an oil boom and even after a downturn is growing and changing. Our population has more than doubled since 2008, and with that has come tremendous investment in infrastructure and quality of life. The city is building the first all-new airport in the United States in more than a decade and opened a state-of-the-art recreation center. There is a lot to cover here. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent journalism school graduate or for a reporter ready to make the jump from a weekly to a daily. There is more than enough to keep a more experience reporter busy, as well.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in journalism or equivalent experience. Strong writing and photography skills are a must, as is a commitment to community journalism. Digital and multimedia experience is highly desirable, as is layout experience.

Williston is in northwest North Dakota, where outdoor recreation opportunities are plentiful. Hunting, fishing, hiking and more are available throughout the area, and the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, with its scenic badlands, is only an hour away.
