Position Summary:


The Digital Producer will play a key role in the day-to-day production of the Pew Research Center website and other digital properties. This position will work with researchers, writers, web developers and graphic designers to develop original digital products that clarify Center research. The Digital Producer will format and upload reports, graphics and other materials using a variety of publishing systems and serve as an editorial and technical resource for all digital production needs across the Center. This position reports to the Associate Director, Digital, but works closely with representatives from across the organization – from researchers to user experience experts to communications staff. Occasional night and weekend hours required.

  • Publish content to Pew Research websites using WordPress and other content management systems
  • Serve as project manager for multiple assigned research areas to manage production workflow for digital products and collaborate on creating content that best conveys Pew Research data findings
  • Work with digital product and communications teams to generate concepts for digital features, identify strategic editorial goals, prioritize projects, and help allocate resources to specific projects
  • Manage social media accounts, including creating and posting daily content and promoting new report releases
  • Draft blog posts, email newsletters, video scripts and website feature copy as needed
  • Collaborate with researchers, social media editor and design teams to ensure all content is optimized for social media
  • Collaborate with communications, editors, and digital analytics specialist to maintain and apply content taxonomy and ensure content is optimized for search
  • Make updates to website home pages
  • Perform quality control and copy editing duties for all materials published
  • Publish email newsletters and other promotional materials
  • Develop a sophisticated understanding of WordPress and other Pew Research Center digital publishing systems
  • Provide training and support to less experienced users



  • Demonstrated understanding of standards based HTML, CSS and search engine optimization
  • Strong news judgment, headline-writing skills, copy writing and editing skills
  • Familiarity with Photoshop and other visual-design tools
  • Familiarity with social media and email marketing tools
  • Interest in emerging digital technologies including content management, publication workflow, mobile, social media marketing, audio/video, etc.Basic understanding of fundamentals of information architecture and user-centric design
  • Experience with Google Analytics or other web analytics tools
  • Ability to meet deadlines with strict attention to detail and accuracyInterest in Pew Research Center's diverse body of work and in exploring innovative ways of presenting data and research via digital channels
  • Front-end coding skills (JavaScript, d3, HighCharts, etc.) a plus
  • Familiarity managing code in GitHub a plus






  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism or related field
  • Three to five years digital production experience, ideally at a think tank, research or news organization
  • Experience with WordPress
  • Experience managing branded social media accounts
  • Experience conceiving, creating and editing innovative digital features and packages
