Job description

Business Real Estate Weekly is seeking a full-time reporter to operate from its offices in North Scottsdale, with opportunity for advancement. A preferred writing style background includes business reporting, hard news and features. Candidates must be extremely keen to detail and possess strong research skills. Knowledge of public record searches would be beneficial. Commercial real estate reports will appear in print version and online, including social media posts. Training and direction will be provided by a 30-year veteran in the print journalism industry. These positions have potential for long time employment and significant advancement. It is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in an escalated career path that could lead to a role as Publisher.

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will be able to build and manage relationships, develop sources and be able to interact one-on-one with private sector real estate professionals, public sector employees and public relations go-betweens. Candidate will be able to develop and write stories using multiple sources, including: direct contact via phone, in-person interviews, attending special events and conferences, internet research, public records, municipal websites, press releases and other media sources.


  • Qualified candidates must have a print journalism background, either as a graduate of an accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program, or be an upper-division student with reporting experience. 
  • Familiar with AP style of business writing
  • Candidates should have superior writing and project management skills, be able to work well under pressure while maintaining professionalism and be able to meet deadlines.
  • Able to work independently with little supervision (after necessary training period). Requires a track record of dependability and evidence of being a self-starter.
  • Exceptional news-writer, including editing and grammar skills. Ability to edit, produce and create accurate, well presented content in a detailed, yet concise manner.
  • Maintain a positive and cooperative rapport with others, including co-workers and sources.
  • Consistent work hours required. Position requires meeting deadlines, both daily and weekly. While there is flexibility for reporters to work remotely, there are weekly print deadlines (Wednesday afternoons) and daily deadlines as news unfolds.
  • Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Be able to communicate effectively, both oral and written.
