The Neshoba Democrat is an award-winning community weekly founded in 1881 that is seeking a managing editor to lead our editorial team.

We are looking for a hands-on editor who can run our newsroom, lead daily reporting on our website along with producing distinct content, including video, and engage our audience on social media.

Management experience is helpful, but the willingness to work hard, lead by example and having a clear vision to engage our audience with old and new media are the most important assets for the job.

Your vision, your work ethic, your enthusiasm for community journalism, quality writing, editing, excellent people skills, an eye for photography and an understanding of how to produce great content that appeals to the community will set you above competing candidates.

At least two years of writing and management experience preferred. The candidate would need to be proficient in Adobe InDesign or Quark with layout and design experience. Digital experience and proficiency with social media posting preferred as well.

Duties involve planning the news budget, making assignments, reporting and managing staff with an eye toward solid news reporting, innovative, enterprising content and, above all, accuracy. Responsibilities include overseeing all editorial content for the newspaper,, special sections and a quarterly glossy magazine.
