What do Virginians really know about how the decisions made by their government affects their lives? What would you tell them if you could? Be part of a bold progressive media initiative with hard-hitting state-level reporting and commentary that changes the political debate.

The Newsroom is a nonprofit creating a network of news and editorial outlets focused on state politics, policy, and key issues. The Newsroom is seeking an experienced state political journalist as Editor-in-Chief for Virginia.

The Editor will have committed funding and website, social media, and editorial support provided by a headquarters office that will oversee the project. The salary is competitive and includes a generous benefits package.

The Editor will be based in Richmond and will hire and oversee reporters, write commentary for the site and op-eds for traditional media outlets, and become an opinion leader in the state. Using NC Policy Watch as a model, the outlet will provide investigative and in-depth reporting as well as commentary and analysis of the most critical decisions facing Virginia.

The Editor will also work with progressive allies in Virginia to feature their content on a dynamic blog and the outlet’s robust social media presence. The Editor will work closely with the Newsroom director and with network peers in other states to share best practices and build relationships that help refine the outlet’s operations.

The ideal candidate will have extensive reporting and/or editing experience, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a deep knowledge of Virginia’s political history and media landscape.
