Description:

The freelance digital content producer will be assigned to provide support for the station’s digital and social media platforms. The freelance digital content producer works closely with the news assignment desk and the integrated digital news teams. This position requires the ability to write articles fluently in Spanish.

Experience with content management systems and social media as a reporting and engagement tool are important. This role reports to the Director of Integrated Media.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a national editorial team to direct the local editorial operation for the digital platforms, ensuring the voice, tone and mix of content fits with the local LA market and the overall editorial strategy.
  • Manage input from newsroom and fellow digital producers to ensure that content on website is accurate, timely, relevant and competitively engaging to publish stories onto the website across a 24/7 schedule.
  • Create original articles, videos and photo galleries; gather original content from the newsroom, and curate a wide variety of stories from other sources. Manage branded social media accounts as well as newsletters and app push alerts.
  • Champion use of social media within the newsroom.  Educate, train and engage stakeholders about effective strategies that drive and propel their interaction with our audiences.  Measure their performance and ensure that all posts are compliant with brand initiatives.  
  • Provide analysis of the publication's digital and social media performance. Communicate with the team on stories that grew audience and help to develop a cohesive multi-platform strategy.
  • Collaborate with management and marketing to understand publication tent pole events and, when applicable, make recommendations for strategies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in journalism, political science or English
  • Minimum 1 year experience as an editor or writer at a major news organization that creates content under tight deadlines
  • Must be able to work early morning, night and weekend hours as needed
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) to a native standard is required both for written and verbal applications

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA (Los Angeles)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

  • Have the desire to work in a creative, demanding, competitive environment.
  • Working knowledge of digital media technology, particularly content-management tools
  • Blogging, wire service, newspaper rewrite or 24-hour cable news background
