Express, The Washington Post’s award-winning free daily paper, is searching for a pop culture obsessive with excellent news judgment and strong editing skills to join its features team. He or she would produce the daily entertainment section, creating a diverse, well-rounded collection of the day’s news and stories from the Washington Post and AP wires.

The ideal candidate has his or her finger on the pulse of pop culture, with an extensive knowledge of topics as varied as “The Bachelor,” blockbuster movies, Beyonce, underground rappers, new Netflix series and the growing #MeToo movement. 

Duties include trimming long stories to fit our pages, writing clever headlines and cutlines, laying out pages with the use of templates and working on our celebrity gossip page, People. 

Careful attention to detail and knowledge of AP style are required. A familiarity with Express’ quick, witty style and experience working with InDesign, Photoshop, WordPress and social media platforms are plusses. The ideal candidate will also come to Express with fresh ideas to strengthen our growing digital presence.

This is a position with room for growth and offers the opportunity to write for Express’ other sections, including local arts and events (Weekend Pass) travel, education and fitness, as well as to contribute to our annual Best of D.C. issue.
Our hours are Sunday through Thursday, approximately 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Published by The Washington Post Co., Express is read by more than 325,000 commuters Monday through Friday. Express is based in downtown D.C., near McPherson Square Metro.
