The New York Times Editing Center, a fast-paced 40-person editing and production operation in Gainesville, Florida, seeks an experienced Copy Editor. This position, assigned to the New York Times News Service, demands precision, time management and accountability. Times stories are updated often, so the position requires clarity, consistency and a mastery of AP style. The ability to write compelling story budget lines is desirable. Reacting quickly to news is vital for a successful candidate, who also must be a steward of Times standards, priorities and high-level expectations. Because of the global reach of The Times, this position may involve uneven hours. On most weeks, two late-night shifts would be assigned, with independent editing and updating of the daily report. The other three shifts would be integrated into the editing mix, both doing initial edits and being the final read on stories sent to clients throughout the world. Some college required; Bachelor’s or advanced degree preferred.
