NJ Advance Media provides content, advertising and marketing services to, and New Jersey’s leading newspaper, The Star-Ledger as well as daily and weekly newspapers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania (including The Times of Trenton, The South Jersey Times, The Hunterdon Democrat and The Express-Times of Easton, PA.)

The reporter is responsible for covering breaking news and other top stories from across New Jersey, mostly during the afternoons and evenings. A key newsroom position, the person will often be the sole reporter on duty, empowered to make key decisions about coverage.

  • BA in Journalism, Communications, or related field
  • Minimum of five years' experience in Journalism, including reporting and editing
  • Experience with using social media to discover and authenticate content
  • Solid understanding of news writing, journalistic standards and story structure
  • Proficiency with proper English punctuation, spelling and grammar
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally at all times with colleagues at locations around the state
  • Ability to accurately handle multiple simultaneous activities on tight deadlines
  • Skilled storyteller, experienced with Facebook Live and other multimedia storytelling tools
  • Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-up

  • Cover breaking news with speed and accuracy, including sharp headlines and appropriate multimedia, social elements
  • Create posts that specifically target audiences via SEO criteria
  • Create and write stories, build multimedia slideshows, and work closely with the social and video teams to optimize our original content across all platforms.
  • Work with the Breaking News team leaders on identifying and collaborating on impactful enterprise stories.
