Vox.com is a user's guide to the news produced by the beat reporters and subject area experts who know it best. We are looking for an associate designer to help us maintain continuous coverage of the stories that matter most.

As a member of the Vox Visuals team, the associate designer will work closely with the associate design editor and Vox’s Engagement team to produce daily news graphics for social platforms and brainstorm mobile storytelling formats.

The ideal candidate works quickly and efficiently under pressure and has a portfolio that exhibits a comprehensive understanding of typography and design principles.

This is a full-time position based in Washington, DC; we're also open to remote candidates for this position. 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily social graphics requests
  • Assist the Vox Engagement team in production of quotes, data viz, audiograms, GIFs, and other promotional assets
  • Utilize existing templates and work closely with the associate design editor to develop, review, and refine mobile storytelling formats
  • Ensure brand consistency and optimize graphics across social platforms
  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize work to meet tight deadlines
  • Accept, resolve, and provide critiques gracefully

Qualifications:

  • Two years working in graphics production, preferably for web
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Comprehensive understanding of typography and design principles
  • Deep investment in the quality of their work and an eye for detail
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure
  • Strong collaborator and effective communicator
  • Illustration, video, and Adobe After Effects experience preferred but not required
