Description:

Disability Scoop, the nation's largest news organization devoted to covering autism and developmental disabilities, is seeking experienced freelance news reporters.

We're looking for self-starters who can turn around news items (generally 200 to 600 words) on deadline. We have a regular need, with the opportunity for freelancers to contribute multiple stories each week.

Disability Scoop covers everything from federal policy to pop culture as it pertains to people with autism, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and more.

Our readers are parents and professionals including government administrators, special educators, nonprofit leaders, behavior specialists and many others. They rely on us to give them the skinny each day on the most important issues for this community in a quick and easy-to-read manner.

Requirements:

Successful candidates will have a demonstrated track record of turning around top-notch news reporting on tight deadlines for a daily newspaper, wire service or reputable online news publication. Experience covering government (federal, state or local) or a school district within the last 3 years is a must.

Candidates must be actively working as professional journalists and have a web and social media presence that is free from opinions on politics and other hot-button issues (including controversial topics within the disability space).

Freelance reporters may live anywhere in the U.S., but should be available for assignments during business hours in the eastern time zone.

Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience.

How to Apply:

To apply, email a letter of interest (pasted within the body of the email), resume and 3 to 5 clips from within the previous three years to hr(AT)disabilityscoop(DOT)com with "Freelance Reporter" in the subject line.
