KMTR-TV & KVAL-TV, in Eugene, Oregon, are seeking an aggressive, creative, energetic, and solution oriented Assignments Manager to lead its desk. This is a great opportunity for someone who is experienced on the news assignment desk, but only if you’re the one who stays calm when chaos surrounds, if you’re the “organized one”, if you’re that person people turn to plan big event coverage. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervise breaking news response and 24/7 coverage for KMTR & KVAL News
  • Lead editorial meetings with content geared for all KMTR & KVAL News platforms and day parts
  • Oversee planning, communication and logistics with KMTR & KVAL news staff covering news of the day
  • Work with Assignment Editors and reporters in developing enterprise and exclusive content
  • Provide leadership, inspiration, and feedback for Assignment Editors and KOMO News Staff
  • Superb communication, organization, and multi-tasking skills

Required skills and qualifications include, but are not limited to:

  • Commitment to journalistic standards of ethics and accuracy
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Basic computer knowledge/word processing skills
  • General knowledge and interest in local, national and world news
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency with Facebook, Twitter, and emerging social media


  • Minimum of five years of assignment desk management experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree with a major in journalism is also preferred

This position is full-time and will require working a flexible schedule.
